Owning Factor Analytics Instead of Licensing It
Capital Markets / RIAReplacing a licensed factor-analytics vendor with an in-house engine the firm owns outright, for a U.S. registered investment adviser.

Overview
A U.S. registered investment adviser was paying for an enterprise factor-analytics vendor just to compute style-factor performance, breadth, sentiment, and sector rotation, metrics it could own outright if built in-house. Canvas Labs Partners replaced the vendor platform with an in-house engine the firm now owns, IP and all.

Challenge
The firm was paying an enterprise vendor just to compute style-factor performance, breadth, sentiment and sector rotation, metrics it could own outright if it built the engine itself. All it needed was daily and intraday market data and the modeling to turn that data into the same metrics the vendor had been selling back.
Solution
Canvas Labs Partners replaced the licensed vendor platform with an in-house engine, built in Python on top of factor modeling, processing daily and intraday market data directly. The firm computes its own style-factor performance, breadth, sentiment and sector-rotation metrics now, on its own infrastructure rather than a vendor's.
Replacing the vendor also meant securing full IP ownership and distribution rights over the resulting analytics, rather than renting access to a platform the firm never owned. The engine and everything it produces now belong to the firm outright.

About us
Canvas Labs Partners is a software consulting team that designs and ships production agentic AI systems: multi-agent pipelines, tool-calling architectures, and human-governed automation, together with the trading infrastructure, blockchain, mobile, and product engineering those agents plug into. We publish our work as a case ledger rather than a portfolio, so every claim on this site links to the engagement behind it. Engagements follow the same four-step discipline, Map, Bound, Instrument and Govern, whatever the stack, and every entry in the ledger carries a result we are willing to be measured against.
Delivered individually, in a prior role, by one of Canvas Labs Partners’ founding team members. Not by the firm itself.
